IT8510E Embedded Controller, EC, which is developed by ITE Tech. Inc., is a highly integrated IC. It is a milestone for ITE to enter into the notebook field. The EC plays an important role in the notebook system, which controls the main input/output devices, such as keyboard, mouse and touch pad, etc. Through the 8032 Microprocessor of EC, notebook can complete complicated ACPI power management and fan control management, etc. In addition to hardware, EC needs firmware, EC code, which has finished cooperating with the three main system BIOS companies currently.

IT8510E adopts LPC interface and share memory architecture, which means EC code and system BIOS code both store in the same flash ROM.  In addition, IT8510E provides addressing capability in ISA flash interface, up to 4M bytes. The main features of IT8510E include 8032 Microprocessor, 71 GPIO, 4 DAC, 14 ADC, 8 PWM, 4 PS/2 interface, etc. Besides, IT8510E also supports to transfer firmware through KBC port to share Flash ROM.  This function can assist customers in updating firmware efficiently at the stage of system development and mass production.

For a long time past, the EC mostly have been foreign brands.  However, they lack immediate and flexible support with higher price that could not meet the requirement to the high competition in the Notebook industry gradually. ITE has devoted much time and manpower to test the compatibility and stability for IT8510E under various functional applications in notebook system. This product has made mass production in early 2004, and the customers cover Taiwan and China including own brand and OEM. Besides, ITE provides customers complete technical service including firmware and hardware support. Customers can shorten time for designing and testing with the IT8510E reference board provided by ITE. Additionally, with the ITE design circuit, they will speed up their design schedule
