IT6162: Dual port MIPI to HDMI 2.0 Converter with Embedded MCU
The IT6162 is a high-performance and low-power dual-port MIPI DSI to HDMI 2.0 converter. It receives one or dual port MIPI DPHY input with low-quality MIPI cables, and converts it to TMDS output, of which current levels and pre-emphasis are both programmable. Each MIPI input can operate in 1/2/4-lane mode. Lane-swap and PN-swap are separately available for flexible circuit layout.
The integrated MIPI receivers are D-PHY 2.0 and DSI-2 ver. 2.0 compatible, capable of supporting up to 2.5 Gbps/Lane and 20 Gbps bandwidth in dual-input mode. A DSC decoder is equipped for applications that utilize only 1 MIPI port. The IT6162 supports MIPI DSI streams such as packed-pixel-stream: RGB in 16/18/24/30/36-bit, YCbCr422 in 16/20/24-bit, YCbCr420 in 12-bit, and loosely-packed-pixel-stream: RGB in 18-bit, YCbCr422 in 20-bit, and DSC 8b/10b streams. Both sync pulse or sync event packets can be received with HSync and VSync generated as original or by firmware setting. The RX/TX deep color capability (up to 36-bit) ensures robust reception of high-quality uncompressed or compressed video content.
The high-performance HDMI 2.0 transmitter is fully compliant with HDMI 2.0b and HDCP 1.3/2.3 specifications. It supports a signaling rate up to 6.0 Gbps per channel on the HDMI interface, such that the 18.0 Gbps bandwidth capability of IT6162 allows it to support content stream such as the popular ultra-high definition 4Kx2K 60Hz format, 3D video with 4Kx2K@30Hz, and so on. The SCDC data structure is contained in HDMI TX side of IT6162 so that HDMI 2.0 content could be properly transmitted to downstream side.
To facilitate system design, IT6162 integrates on-chip CSC conversion (including YCbCr 422/444 to RGB, and vice versa) and dithering capability.
The IT6162 supports VRR function as well, so that VRR feature can be implemented in the system.
Aside from the various video features, the IT6162 also provides up to 8 channels of I2S digital audio inputs, with sampling rate of up to 192 kHz and sampling size of up to 24 bits, facilitating direct connection to industry-standard low-cost audio. Optionally, an S/PDIF input is available to support compressed audio of up to 192 kHz frame rate. Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) is also supported with up to 8 channels and 88.2 kHz through optional DSD (Direct Stream Digital) inputs. The High-Bit Rate (HBR) audio can be supported by the IT6162 in two interfaces at up to 765 kHz with the four I2S input ports. The selected audio content is inserted and transmitted in the HDMI stream to downstream sinks.
With embedded MCU and Flash, IT6162 is easy to program through the ISP interface via PCSCL/PCSDA. Customers need no external Flash or MCU, saving BOM cost and board size.
Each IT6162 comes pre-programmed with unique HDCP keys, in compliance with the HDCP standard so as to provide secure transmission of high-definition content with HDMI interface.
