IT66332: 3-to-1 MHL/HDMI Active Switch with EDID RAM

The IT66332 is a three-to-one MHL/HDMI active switch that supports a signaling rate up to 3.0 Gbps. The latest HDMI 1.4 and MHL 2.1 specifications are supported by IT66332 which Port A or Port B or Port C can be configurated as MHL Port and operate in both HDMI and MHL mode. With 3.0 Gbps capability, the IT66332 can support the new 4K x 2K video format and 1080P@120 Hz. It also enables the HDMI to display 3D video with 1080P/3D@60 Hz format and the MHL to display HD video with 1080P@60 Hz format.

A one-port SINK system such as flat-panel TVs or LCD projectors could also easily upgrade to three-port by adding an IT66332 at the front. New cell phones with MHL transmitter can connect to MHL Port directly without external MHL to HDMI dongle device. The IT66332 operates in software mode that allows the system to control it via a two-line serial interface, PCSCL/PCSDA. The IT66332 offers two selectable serial programming addresses by PCADR.

To achieve the friendly remote control environment, the IT66332 also provides a complete solution of HDMI CEC function and MHL RCP function. With IT66332 embedded CEC/RCP hardware, user can use high-level software API to easily implement all the necessary remote control commands.

As a active switch, the IT66332 equalizes incoming TMDS data with optimal quality regardless of the incoming signal quality. The highly acclaimed equalization technology of ITE TECH. INC. provides for support of long or low-quality HDMI cables at even the highest speeds. Input terminations of the TMDS inputs and output current levels are both programmable. In addition, the input terminations are disconnectable and hence significantly lower the system power consumption in inactive modes.

The IT66332 embeds an EDID RAM to save the cost of the three external EDID ROMs. The process of downloading the EDID data into the RAM is simplified by the firmware programming. The IT66332 also embeds three 1K-ohm resisters for HPD signal paths to save external resisters and easy to implement the plug authentication.

The IT66332 also incorporates I2C repeater in its DDC switches, which isolates the DDC capacitances of the two sides of the switch. This allows for longer cable cascading and significantly eases the system design to pass Test ID 8-9: DDC/CEC Line Capacitance and Voltage of the HDMI Compliance Test.
